2015 REPORT
I wish to thank each and every member of the Historical Society of Elba for their contribution of time, money, energy and overall support. It is your continuing support that has enabled our organization to be active in our community. Many helping hands has enabled us to be successful in our annual fundraisers – Barn Dance, Roast Beef Dinner, Antique & Collectible show. Funds provided by these events, as well as the Town of Elba’s generous grant has enabled us to maintain and improve the museum’s buildings and its contents.
We are slowly improving the interior of the museum with the re-organization of display cases. Amy has managed to dispose of the large display case that we previously received from the Buffalo Museum, unfortunately it was too large for our building and we never were able to utilize it fully.
Jim Bird has part of his milk bottle collection on display with us. He has very unique ones. I have various matchbook covers on display which represent businesses and some politicians from the Orleans and Genesee counties, including one from the Richmond Hotel in Batavia. Please come and visit our museum and its displays.
The Elba Kindergarten class paid a visit to the museum last Spring and they enjoyed it so much that the teachers have requested a repeat visit this Spring.
The Griffin House continues to showcase early American architecture as well as many objects of interest on the inside.
June Rowcliffe has served notice that the 2015 Antique Show would be the last one. Our organization and members owe June much gratitude for the time and effort that she put into past antique shows. THANK YOU JUNE!!!
2016 – The Year Ahead
My list of MUST DO:
- The siding on the Griffin House is in need of replacement.
- Organize the barn
- Continue to improve interior of main museum
- Attract new members, we need every helping hand.
These goals remain the same as last year. I hope that I can be more successful in 2016.
